
COMMUNITY IT HERO AWARD
The Community IT Hero Award recognizes an individual, group or not-for-profit organization that can demonstrate the creative application of information technology in improving the lives of Canadians.
Entries are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Entrant is an individual, group, or not-for-profit organization. These can include publically funded institutions such as healthcare and education.
- The technology application significantly improves the lives of Canadians and readily demonstrates social and economic benefit.
- The use of this technology addresses an important problem or challenge.
- The application of this technology, which may be either a new invention or an innovative use of an existing technology, makes a noteworthy contribution that surpasses previous or current solutions.
- The technology application has the potential to serve as an inspiration or model for further innovation.
- The achievements of the Canadian IT Hero Award winner will help educate citizens about the use of IT to improve the quality of life for those in their community.
- The technology application is currently being used and has demonstrated a measurable benefit.
- The technology was developed in 2006 or later.
Nominations and applications must be submitted online.
Entrants can nominate themselves (self-nomination) or be nominated by an individual or organization. In the latter instance, nominees will be sent a congratulatory letter and asked to complete a more detailed application form.

CORPORATE IT HERO AWARD
The Corporate IT Hero Award recognizes a for-profit public or privately-owned business that can demonstrate the creative application of IT in improving the lives of Canadians.
Entries are evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Entrant is a for-profit-business. All public and private businesses operating for profit in Canada qualify for this category.
- The technology application significantly improves the lives of Canadians and readily demonstrates the social and economic benefit.
- The use of this technology addresses an important problem or challenge.
- The application of this technology, which may be either a new invention or an innovative use of an existing technology, makes a noteworthy contribution that surpasses previous or current solutions
- The technology application has the potential to serve as an inspiration or model for further innovation.
- The achievements of the IT Hero Award winner will help educate citizens about the use of IT to improve the quality of life for those in their community.
- The technology application is currently being used and has demonstrated a measurable benefit.
- The technology was developed in 2006 or later.
